Seeing Alaska on a 7-day cruise is a fantastic vacation experience. We are going to make it even more of an adventure with this 11-night CruiseTour. We will start with the land tour before boarding the beautiful Carnival Spirit.

Denali National Park alone is a six-million-acre wonderland of forests, rivers and mountains, including America's highest peak, Mt. McKinley. We'll see breathtaking scenery on the tour. You know what else we'll likely see from the motorcoach? Moose, golden eagles and grizzly bears. This adventure also includes the urban and country pleasure of Anchorage, a port city nestled between the Alaska Range and the Chugach Mountains. Here you can tour the Museum of Natural History and Art, at Ship Creek Salmon Overlook, watch spawning salmon head upstream. You can even visit Lake Hood, the busiest seaplane base in the world!

Also on the tour is Fairbanks, Alaska's second-largest city. You'll feel like a pioneer here. You can even try you hand at panning for gold. Now you may not strike it rich on this vacation, but you will come home with a fortune in priceless memories.

PORT SPOTLIGHT

Cozumel, Mexico

cabosanlucas
© 2008 Sealetter Cruise Magazine

  • Port City:
    Cozumel, Mexico
  • Population
    50,000
  • Language:
Spanish is the official language, but most locals speak at least some English.
  • Climate:
Warm and dry. The average temperature is 82 degrees; the average water temperature is 76 degrees.
  • Currency:
The Mexican peso. U.S. dollars are widely accepted.

Cozumel, called the "Island of the Swallows" by its original inhabitants, was once the site of Mayan fertility rites and a pirate base in the 17th century. Today this small island (only 10 miles wide by 28 miles long - but still Mexico's largest island), is the home of 50,000 Mexicans and zillions of tourists - so it seems. But Cozumel (average temperature: 82 degrees) deserves to be a bustling tourist place - it competes with Grand Cayman as the best snorkeling/diving site in the Caribbean, and it's the jumping off point for tours of the fabled cities of the Mayans.

The typical cruise itinerary sees the cruise ship stop at the crack of dawn at Playa del Carmen ("Carmen's Beach") on the mainland, just long enough for passengers going on the Mayan expeditions to disembark. Cozumel is reached shortly thereafter, and if you're a good sleeper, you probably won't have even noticed the first stop. A few cruise ships go straight to Cozumel, and then ferry you back to the mainland (at least a 45 minute ride), to start the trek to the Mayan ruins at Tulum.

Depending on how many ships are in port, your ship may dock at one of the new international terminals (about four miles from town but closer to the best beaches), or may anchor and tender passengers ashore directly to the main pier in San Miguel.

Many say that Playa San Francisco is the best beach with its three miles of white sand. It's a $12 taxi ride from downtown (even less if you're docked at the international terminal). Others prefer Playa del Sol, more famous but more crowded, about a mile south of Playa San Francisco. Playa Bonita is said to be a great uncrowded beach, but a taxi will cost a lot more as it's on the east side of the island. With underwater visibility reaching 250 feet, Cozumel rivals Grand Cayman as the diving/snorkeling capital of the Caribbean. Twenty miles of coral reefs have been set aside as an underwater national park, including Palancar Reef, the world's second largest natural coral formation. If you have your own equipment, you can do your own tour to some of the places noted below.

Chicken Tikka Skewers

  • 1 pint of live natural yogurt
  • 1 Tablespoon Cumin powder
  • 1 Tablespoon garam massala
  • 1 Teaspoon Coriander powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 Teaspoon chilli powder
  • Juice 1 lemon
  • 8 cloves garlic - crushed
  • 1 inch grated ginger
  • 4 Chicken Breasts Cubed
  • 1 Lemon
  • Mix the spices, lemon juice, ginger and garlic up into a paste with a little water and stir in well with the yogurt to make a tandoori marinade.

Marinate the chicken in the marinade for 2-6 hours.

Preheat the oven to its highest heat for at least 20 minutes.

Shake off excess marinade and place chicken pieces on skewers on a wire rack in the oven.

Cook for 15-20 minutes and check the chicken is cooked by piercing the thickest piece with a skewer, if the juices run clear it’s cooked, Avoid over cooking as this will dry the meat out, serve with a wedge of lemon.

Ruby Princess to be Christened by Trista & Ryan Sutter from ABC's Batchelorette

In celebration of National Romance Week, Princess Cruises announced today that celebrity couple Trista and Ryan Sutter will christen the newest cruise ship in the Princess fleet, Ruby Princess, on November 6 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The Sutters, who met on ABC's hit reality series, The Bachelorette, the most romantic franchise on TV since the Love Boat, will celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary this fall, and will mark this milestone event during the Ruby Princess inaugural, which will be themed around "romantic moments and milestones."

Trista and Ryan are one of the best-known romantic duos in recent broadcast history, as they are the first and only couple from the The Bachelor and Bachelorette franchises who have actually gotten married. The Sutters also recently celebrated the first birthday of their son, Max.

"Princess Cruises has long stood for romance and reconnection, and so we're delighted to have Trista and Ryan christen Ruby Princess as they celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary," said Jan Swartz, senior vice president for Princess Cruises. "While slightly unconventional, their courtship and marriage was exciting to watch as it unfolded, and we think their fascinating love story epitomizes our inaugural theme of celebrating romantic moments and milestones."

Trista and Ryan Sutter met in 2002, when she was America's first Bachelorette. The Bachelor and The Bachelorette on ABC-TV were the first and are still the most popular reality dating shows in which one man or woman searches for their soul mate out of 25 potential suitors. Over the course of the show, the bachelorette bestows roses on those bachelors she wishes to continue dating. Trista presented Ryan with her final rose and he then proposed on the show's finale in November 2002. The couple wed on December 6, 2003 in an elaborate television ceremony watched by 26 million viewers, making it one of the most widely viewed episodes in the history of reality TV and one of ABC's top rated shows of the year. After their highly visible courtship, Trista and Ryan moved to Vail, CO, where they currently reside with their son, Max. In addition to frequent TV interviews and promotional appearances, he is a firefighter and she is a stay-at-home mom and designer for her new diaper bag line, Trista Baby.

"We're incredibly honored to be invited to be the godparents of Ruby Princess," said Trista Sutter. "It's hard to believe that it's been five years since we got married. This is a wonderful way to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and also to remind people about the importance of marking not only the key milestones in a relationship, but also making time to incorporate romance into our everyday lives. We are so excited to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!"

The 3,070-passenger Ruby Princess includes a dramatic piazza-style atrium featuring small-bite eateries and an ever-changing array of performing street entertainers. Passengers will also enjoy Princess' other array of dining venues including the signature Sabatini's Italian trattoria and the Crown Grill steak and seafood restaurant, plus a relaxing oasis just for adults called The Sanctuary.

The new cruise ship will also offer the many other innovations that define the Princess experience, including the popular Movies Under the Stars poolside movie screen, Personal Choice Dining featuring traditional or Anytime seating, multiple entertainment venues, a relaxing Asian-style Lotus Spa with fitness center, an extensive children and teen's center, a wedding chapel and nearly 900 staterooms with private balconies -- perfect for enjoying a scenic Caribbean islands cruise.

During Ruby Princess' inaugural season she will make seven-day weekly sailings from Fort Lauderdale, FL to the Western Caribbean. Calls include Ocho Rios, Jamaica; Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands; Cozumel, Mexico and Princess Cays in the Bahamas. Next spring the ship will move to Europe for 12-day sailings in the Mediterranean and Greek Islands.

NCL Sells Two Ships to Louis Cruise Lines

Fans of the Norwegian Majesty and the Norwegian Dream will want to start researching a trip to Greece.

The Financial Mirror reports today that the two NCL ships, the oldest in the company's fleet, definitely will be heading to Greece-based Louis Cruise Lines.

The Mirror says Louis has concluded the previously-announced deal to buy the 16-year-old, 1,462-passenger Majesty for $162 million, and the line will add the Norwegian Dream to its fleet in a separate transaction to be completed in September.

Louis says in a statement posted on its website today that it will lease the Norwegian Majesty back to NCL's parent company through Dec. 1, 2009 so the ship can finish up its already-announced season with NCL. The Majesty currently is sailing to Bermuda out of Philadelphia and Baltimore, and it's scheduled to move to Charleston this winter for cruises to the Bahamas and Florida.

A spokeswoman for NCL says neither ship sale will affect its schedule. "We are leasing back both ships to cover our currently scheduled cruises," says NCL's AnneMarie Mathews. "Norwegian Dream will leave the fleet in November of this year."

While little known in the USA, the eight-ship Louis line is a major operator of cruises in the Greek Islands, with three-, four- and seven-night voyages out of Pireaus.

The sales will leave NCL with 10 ships in service and two more on order.

Mississippi River Oil Spill Continues to Thwart Carnival Fantasy

Remember the movie Groundhog Day, where the character played by Bill Murray keeps experiencing the same day over and over again?

That, in a nutshell, is what's been happening to the poor crew of the Carnival Fantasy the past three weeks as the New Orleans-based ship grapples with an oil spill on the Mississippi River.

Every week it looks like the oil spill has been contained and the 2,056-passenger vessel will be able to get back into its berth in New Orleans. And every week something goes wrong at the last minute that keeps the vessel away.

Such was the case, again, this morning as the Fantasy, returning from a five-night cruise to Mexico, was forced to disembark passengers in Mobile, Ala., instead of New Orleans for the third time in three weeks.

The diversion leaves the thousands of passengers on board nearly 150 miles away from where they expected to arrive (and where many have left their cars or scheduled flights for home). Carnival will bus the passengers back to the port of New Orleans today.

The diversion also will cause headaches for the thousands of passengers who expected to depart from New Orleans today for the ship's next cruise to Mexico, which was scheduled to leave this afternoon. Carnival will have buses on hand to take them to Mobile.

The oil spill occurred on July 23 after a collision between a tanker and a barge near New Orleans.

    Celebrity Solstice Floats Out

In a major step toward completion, the hotly anticipated Celebrity Solstice, which officially debuts on November 23, was floated out Sunday at Germany's Meyer Werft shipyard. As befits the term, a "float out" is the step in the shipbuilding process in which the dry dock the vessel had been resting in is gradually filled with water until the ship floats on its own. Prior to its float out, Solstice had been perched on blocks, while the hull and exterior work was being completed.

Following the flooding of the space, Solstice was pulled by tug from the covered dry dock to a nearby floating dock, where the remainder of the outfitting -- focusing primarily on completing interior spaces, such as adding carpeting and decorating lounges -- will be completed by September 27.

The ship will then undergo sea trials, after which it will head across the Atlantic for a series of pre-inaugural sailings. The vessel will debut in November with a season of weeklong Eastern Caribbean cruises.

Solstice is the first of five of a new prototype for Celebrity Cruises, all boasting innovative onboard features like a hot glass show, the Lawn Club, an onboard bocce/putting venue with real grass and special spa cabins.

    New Searchable Specials Database

June 28 marked new territory for All About Cruises. We moved to a new server in order to bring new technology to you. This move did not change the way users access the site, but did provide a few days of downtime.

The new technology allows us to use flash animation and bring more fun interactive things for you to explore.

The biggest change that users will notice and begin to love is a searchable databse of cruises. Currently our specials is all that can be searched for. You can search for as many or as little inputs as possible.

For instance, you can search for all cruises from your favorite cruise line, or ship. Perhaps you have a specific date range that you are interested in and want to see if something is available. Or maybe you want to seach by the numbers of days you will be aboard. The itinerary could perhaps be what you are looking for or maybe your wallet determines what amount you can spend. With high gas prices lately, you could be watching how much you put in your tank and that could perhaps choose which port you leave from.

All of these options are featured for search on our specials currently and in the future we will slowly begin adding all of the cruise lines sailings. Talk about a dainting task--just Carnival alone has over 2000 different sailings in the course of a two year period. Just think how many sailings it would be for about 15 different cruise lines! Eventually we will have the complete listing of every cruise that will exist and will assist you in finding your perfect cruise! If this doesn't help you find your cruise we aren't sure what will.

Also, a new addition is that each sailing has a special "Quick Reference ID". This will help you keep each sailing separate. These ID's are unique and are easy to jot down and come back to later without having to search all over again.

Is there a feature like this that you would like to see on our site that isnt there yet? Email us and let us know and we will try to add it!

    CRUISE SPECIALS

The cruises below are just an example of the many special rates we have to offer.
They are based upon availability and are subject to change.
Please feel free to call our office if there is a cruise you are interested in that is not listed.

If you find a cruise you are interested in, use our Quote Request Form or call us.
