CRUISE MYTHS
If you're new to cruising, you often have misconceptions about cruising. Some things you may have assumed, read about or heard someone talking about it. Here are some common questions and a better insight into the cruise experience.

Will I be bored?

Only if you allow yourself to be bored! There are TONS of activites to keep you occupied from lectures, card games, gambling, sports, exercise, sunbathing, swimming, shopping, spa, contests, hobbies, movies, ...the list goes on! You can do as little or as much as you can imagine!

Won't I get seasick?

Most people today don't even realize that they are on a moving ship due to modern technology. Cruise ships today are so large and have stabilizers to prevent the "rock and roll" motion. Advanced weather technology provide up to the minute weather forecasts to help ships outrun severe weather. Mild queasiness can be calmed by over-the-counter medicine such as Bonine or Dramamine. Alternative means are ginger, apples, acupressure wristbands and behind the ear patch.

Will I eat too much?

If you eat while you are working out, it cancels out the calories right? Okay, we know the rumor that you gain atleast 5 pounds per cruise but there are low-carb and healthy menu options -- and you can work out in the gym to offset that burger you had by the pool this afternoon.

Is cruising safe?

All ships must enact an emergency drill within the first 24 hours of departure, some even before departure. This safety drill provides you with necessary information in the event of an emergency including how to properly wear a life jacket, where your muster station is and your lifeboat. PAY ATTENTION - your life could depend on it in a emergency! The Coast Guard conducts random inspections and require ships to have smoke detectors, sprinklers and emergency lighting.

Isn't it expensive?

Booking a cruise is much like a new car purchase--you never buy it at the book price. If you see it advertised in a magazine or on a website, it may be a shock to you, but remember that the price includes accomodations, food, activities and nighttime entertainment. Add up a land based vacation with comprable services and you are guaranteed to see a noticably lesser price for a cruise!

Can I stay in touch?

Most ships have major tv networks to provide live news. Modern ships have internet cafes for passenger use to check email, surf the internet or find your local newspaper. Newer technology will even enable you to call from your cell phone in the middle of nowhere. Beware of long distance charges!
